Sega had to basically abandon their entire comic continuity because he kept threatening to sue them for royalties. I don't know the exact details, but apparently his contract was poorly written and he ended up with ownership over almost all the characters created during that comic run. He's a guy who wrote for Archie comics Sonic for a while.
